Manufacturer's Information:

These designer molds are used to create striking Melt & Pour glycerin soaps and unique Cold Process hand-made soaps. The molds are manufactured from 0.060" thick, high impact polystyrene plastic (HIPS), which is food safe and FDA approved. These soap molds can withstand casting temperatures of up to 180̊F.

Instructions for Use and Care of your Designer Soap Molds
Casting Temperature: Our soap molds have been successfully tested with glycerin temperatures of up to 180̊F with the HIPS without warping. However, it is recommended to pour the soap base at least 10-20̊F lower than these temperatures, or as low as possible, which will increase the mold's working life.

Tip: To avoid warping, it is important when casting M&P glycerin into plastic molds, to use a thermometer to ensure that your soap temperature is below the maximum recommended casting temperature and decreasing.

Pouring & Unmolding: Our one-part molds are designed to cast your soap at any depth, up to the maximum stated weight. This versatility allows you to pour whatever weight of bar you need at the time.

The techniques we recommend for filling and unmolding our one-part molds is to pour the cast almost full leaving approx. 1/8"-1/4" of space at the top. When the soap is ready to release, place the mold on a flat surface with the cavities facing down, and press down steadily with the palm of your hand on the center of the top of the cavities until the soap unmolds.

Tip: Some soap bases shrink less than others as they cool or saponify within the molds. To easily unmold the bases, which shrink very little, you may need to pull the edges of the mold outwards to manually break the seal that the soap may have on the mold. When the seal is successfully broken, repeat the unmolding technique above. To further aid in release, you may also lightly rap the mold squarely against a flat surface with the cavities facing down, until the cast is free from the mold. Always avoid excessive force when unmolding your soap. If the soap will not unmold easily, it is recommended to keep waiting. In time, most soap will shrink and unmold easily.

Unmolding Times for M&P Glycerin in our One-Part Molds: M&P glycerin's unmolding times vary greatly from one base to another. Some will unmold easily at 4 hours, others require several days at room temperature. It is generally recommended to leave the soap in the mold for approx. 12-24 hrs. prior to unmolding it at room temperature. If the M&P glycerin will not unmold easily within this timeframe, it is recommended to keep waiting, checking it periodically until it does release easily. To accelerate the unmolding process, please see the tips above, or the chilling technique below.

Chilling M&P Glycerin: An unmolding technique we highly recommend is to chill the M&P glycerin to 55-60̊F prior to unmolding. This temperature can be achieved by placing the room temperature glycerin into the freezer for approx. 15 minutes, or into the refrigerator for approx. 1 hour. Chilling the M&P glycerin within the molds will greatly aid in the release of the soap, and in a fraction of the time of unmolding at room temperature. The process we recommend for using this technique is to pour the glycerin into the molds, let stand at room temperature for 4 hours, chill to 55-60̊F with 15 minutes in the freezer or 1 hour in the refrigerator, then unmold and let the casts set until the glycerin adjusts back to room temperature before handling. Please note: It is not recommended to allow the glycerin's temperature to drop below 55-60̊F or to freeze when using this chilling technique, as the glycerin will sweat as a result.

Unmolding Times for Hot & Cold Processed Soap in our One-Part: It is recommended to let the soap stay in the molds for as long as necessary (usually 18-24 hrs. for CP, but even several days if necessary), until the soap has sufficiently solidified. Unmold the soap using the methods mentioned above. If the soap sticks to the mold, using a mold release may aid in the release of these types of soap.

Cleaning the Molds: Usually rinsing the molds in warm water is all that is necessary. You may also wash the molds in warm soapy water, if necessary, to remove any leftover oils and/or soap residue.
